I wrestled with this for three full days. Ultimately, I chose the more complex method for its clearer layers—the recesses open up sightlines and create sharper chiaroscuro contrasts.\r\nIn recent years, I have experimented with many composite materials, using paper, bamboo, wood, and fabric most frequently. Paper remains my first choice due to its infinite versatility. I have used it to create large-scale sculptures, flames in the wind, the glow of sunset, laser beams, giant ribbons, abstract blooming petals, and numerous conceptual works on vision and color. The bamboo had a hardness close to that of the Sogetsu school's standards. To press the layers into the desired reverse arcs, I had to put my whole body weight on them—only to be nearly bounced right off.\r\nThanks to Wu Zhi Interior Design's overall style and high aesthetic, this New Chinese focal-point installation stood out brilliantly the moment it was done. Even before the soft furnishings arrived, the curves at the end were already breathtaking.\r\nWhen Dongjie saw my design sketch, she said the flowing bamboo strips looked like a freeze-frame of condensed milk being poured in. So during execution, I kept that phrase in my head: I want these rigid bamboo rows to express flowing liquid.\r\nThose seemingly simple curves actually took two full days to execute on site.\r\nOriginal work. These turtle cake molds, steeped in human touch, seemed to awaken from the folds of old times.\r\nEngraved into the bloodline of every Fujian native, these heirlooms were once tools for pressing dough into sacred turtle cakes. Now, they have become the most storied protagonists of the window display—a breathing cultural code.\r\nAnd contrary to expectations, the muted, ancient tones did not go unnoticed. \"Aren't those the old wooden molds from my hometown?\" \"Look, are those turtle cake molds?\" \"My grandma used these when I was little!\" \"So that’s how turtle cakes are made!\" During installation, countless passersby paused, pointing at the molds, sharing memories with companions and family.\r\nYou see, some beauty needs no forced virality. This entire sculptural installation was completed using fragments of Ru kiln porcelain combined with paper.\r\nOver a month of conception, design, and on-site execution culminated in this atrium art installation for the Ru Kiln Exhibition Hall.\r\nThe first 10 photos capture the front of the sculpture under the sunset, where the light and shadows are enchanting.\r\nPhoto 11 is the humble hand-drawn sketch.\r\nThe last 7 photos show the side and back details in daylight.\r\nThe front and back use the same materials but different arrangement techniques, presenting completely distinct styles.\r\n\"Heavenly Blue, Subtle Serenity\"\r\nThe charm of Ru kiln inherits the true essence of the East from the Song Dynasty. It captures the random, jagged posture of Taihu stones and the silhouette contour of flowing robes from A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains. At the intersection of \"hardness\" and \"softness,\" it introduces natural imagery: mist rising from mountain streams and the murmur of flowing water.\r\nRu porcelain shards appear and disappear within the trajectories of earth, wind, and sand, symbolizing how the porcelain, having endured the baptism of time, finally emerges as a cultural treasure through the waves.\r\nThe paper materials, kneaded and layered, are clustered around the porcelain shards. My client gave me carte blanche with \"Go wild, imagine anything,\" so I drew the linework without considering the engineering nightmares ahead.\r\nThe Struggle:​\r\nWhen production actually began, reality hit hard. This 3‑meter long, irregularly shaped organic installation was a beast. Not only was it difficult to flip over, but finding the center of gravity for hanging was a nightmare. As we layered on the random materials, the balance kept shifting. Hanging a 50kg+ structure beneath a light membrane, trying to find equilibrium from preset anchor points… the pit was so deep I wasn’t sure I could climb out.\r\nThe Triumph:​\r\nThankfully, we pulled it off. This was the most anxiety‑inducing installation I’ve done this year. Thus, winding new buds, blooming flowers, falling ginkgo leaves, snowballs, and snowflakes—combined with a moon crafted from oil-painted leaves and clouds shaped from cotton—form a three-dimensional tableau of the seasons, clouds, and the moon.\r\nAll elements were deliberately desaturated, prioritizing environmental harmony and visual comfort...\r\nThe creation was mentally taxing, and the installation process was arduous. For someone of my petite stature, it was overwhelmingly massive. Like waging a battle, we fought through sleepless nights against the clock. Forget filming videos—there wasn't even time to take photos. Through the dual lenses of \"noodles\" and natural \"landscape,\" we sought a harmonious intersection, creating an escape from the clamor of modern life and a return to the simple joys of nature.\r\nThe lifting and shaking motions of \"drying noodles\" create a sense of dynamic undulation, merging with the silhouettes of the hills to reveal the rhythmic flow of water. The uneven, randomly dense folds resemble freehand ink wash textures; their traces are elusive, yet their charm is deeply felt. Occasionally, a few strands drift lightly and nimbly, like mist dispersing through the mountains...\r\nHanging feathers reflect upon one another, dancing in the air like plumes, light and lively; inverted landscapes capture the posture of mountains reflected in the water below.\r\n**\r\n**\r\nAn art installation themed around intangible cultural heritage dried noodles, suspended behind an antique table. Since the site already featured a noodle-themed installation incorporating bamboo elements, and ordinary threads felt too common, we spent over a week washing and twisting paper to create a vertical texture resembling a curtain of noodles. While it lacks the smoothness of actual gypsum, the resulting texture is rich and multi-layered—utterly captivating.\r\nI started by shaping the general three-dimensional form with air-dry clay (as shown in the last image), then proceeded with manual modeling based on that shape, refining the softness of the curves. Finally, I draped pre-prepared textured paper over the model.\r\nComposite material sculpture is a field I’ve been eager to explore. Before applying these techniques formally, preliminary material experiments are essential. The fluid, streamlined forms of Rona Maffucci’s sculptures served as the primary models for this initial exploration. Analyzing the morphology of these images to develop a three-dimensional understanding is a vital step in the learning process.\r\nEverything above is strictly for the purpose of texture research.\r\nOther textures are worth exploring too—fabric, straws, bamboo sticks, book pages, and so on. The space wasn't even fully cleaned yet, but I couldn't resist snapping a couple of shots—I simply love it too much.\r\nThere were no blueprints; every single piece was positioned spontaneously on-site.\r\nDrawing from the phoenix motifs in Eastern culture and the \"Nirvana\" rebirth cycle, this work extends into a meditation on \"circularity\"—exploring how matter, through \"reprocessing,\" is granted new value and a second life.\r\nInspired by the Book of Songs: \"The phoenix flies high, its feathers rustling as it descends to roost.\" This evokes the magnificent sight of the phoenix ascending, followed closely by a myriad of birds drawn to its wake.\r\nDry, gnarled branches outline the vigorous and solemn posture of the parasol tree. Flame-like shapes and wind-swept leaf forms gather and flow, abandoning literal representations of the \"bird\" in favor of creating a kinetic field of movement. Integrating these concepts into art installation creation allows us to infuse them with the unique artistic language of the creator.\r\nThis time, we collected numerous blue yogurt caps and dug up some plastic fans leftover from a friend’s search for their lost dog. After repurposing them, we created a luminous installation titled Ocean Heart, driven by visual balance and sensory output.\r\n\u002F\r\nIn the ocean—the cradle of life—countless mysteries remain buried beneath the waves.\r\nOne day, we salvaged a heart from the deep sea. What drew us in from afar was the radiant glow bursting forth from within. Shaped by years of seawater erosion, its surface was encrusted with silver crystals, while shells and corals breathing and growing upon its outer walls merged seamlessly with the crystalline structure.\r\nWhen we cried out, a brilliant radiance erupted from its core. Originally an old local residential building, after foundation and beam reinforcements, many wonderful alcove-like spaces appeared in the second-floor ceiling. Almost every wall had a window opening overhead (see the last image). Once our installation artistically connected these points, the previously empty 5-meter ceiling was instantly filled with a resilient sense of life, like new buds bursting forth.\r\n\r\nThe construction process was incredibly arduous. Before installation, everyone who walked past it said it looked like a giant, adorable Zongzi (rice dumpling).\r\nAlthough it took three days to make and was only displayed briefly, summarizing lessons during the production process was invaluable experience. After all, each layer of bamboo strips offers different shaping possibilities—it can be as rugged as the Sogetsu school of Ikebana, or as elegant as a ribbon. This time, the thickness was different from before; the bamboo strips were processed very finely, slightly thick, and—to the extent of slapping against my face—I can only say, it still hurt quite a bit...\r\nThe ninth image is the design draft, which originally included orange accents. Different heights of arcs were used to soften the industrial lines in the environment. Wheat ears and oats were added to fill partial crescent-shaped voids, enhancing the overall hierarchy through varied heights.\r\nHanging wooden slat groups were incorporated; the subtle interplay of long and short straight lines added a secondary visual focus within the curves, resembling a mirage in a storm.\r\nThe winding intersection of patterned wood pieces creates a sense of transparency, ethereality, and naturally disordered extension. Waterproof materials needed to withstand not just rain, but also the daily watering required by potted plants. Pairing irregular structures with hundreds of pounds of soil made load-bearing and safety a real headache.\r\n\r\nThe installation site is located at the entrance of the Luxelakes Flower Festival, covering a lawn of about 100 square meters. I primarily contributed the overall structural design and installation construction.
