Intangible Cultural Heritage Dried Noodle Art Installation | Inverted Hills in Reflection

In ancient times, the "Middle Water" flowed through the central Sichuan hills, giving Zhongjiang its name. Level damlands and low mountains mirror each other, with rolling hills stretching endlessly—Zhongjiang’s mountains and rivers have nurtured the local farming culture. Zhongjiang’s "noodles," thin as strands of hair, hollow and pure white, hanging like silver silk, carry a千年-old flavor and are hailed as the "Intangible Cultural Heritage on the dining table." Upholding the philosophy of "seeing the big picture from the small, and understanding the profound through the subtle," we took Zhongjiang’s "noodles" as our inspiration, blending the essence of oriental aesthetics with imagery of mountains and waters. Through the dual lenses of "noodles" and natural "landscape," we sought a harmonious intersection, creating an escape from the clamor of modern life and a return to the simple joys of nature. The lifting and shaking motions of "drying noodles" create a sense of dynamic undulation, merging with the silhouettes of the hills to reveal the rhythmic flow of water. The uneven, randomly dense folds resemble freehand ink wash textures; their traces are elusive, yet their charm is deeply felt. Occasionally, a few strands drift lightly and nimbly, like mist dispersing through the mountains... Hanging feathers reflect upon one another, dancing in the air like plumes, light and lively; inverted landscapes capture the posture of mountains reflected in the water below. ** ** An art installation themed around intangible cultural heritage dried noodles, suspended behind an antique table. Since the site already featured a noodle-themed installation incorporating bamboo elements, and ordinary threads felt too common, we spent over a week washing and twisting paper to create a vertical texture resembling a curtain of noodles. By suspending them at varying heights with fluctuating rises and falls, mimicking the swaying motion of a fishtail, we captured the fleeting moment of noodles being tossed during the drying process.
