Art Installation Creation | Zhang Daqian Lotus Leaf Painting

Designed and produced a set of small hanging art installations for the Research Center (Jiajiang) of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Located at the former residence of Zhang Daqian, the installation extracts the color palette from his Lotus Leaf Paintings. Through layered ink washes and precise control of moisture, it renders the deep greens and mineral blues of the artwork, tracing the rhythm of "ink dividing light and shadow." Accented with pale rouge pink from lotus petals, and rooted in Jiajiang’s intangible heritage papermaking village, paper elements were once again embraced. I never got to photograph the cleaned-up final site, and slowly forgot about this installation—until recently, when discussing Zhang Daqian’s lotus leaves brought it back to mind. Digging out the unedited phone photos, I’m reminded just how endlessly captivating these colors are.
