A Dazzling Art Installation Made of Discarded Phone Cases | Sunshade

This half-ton sunshade art installation is composed of 2,300 discarded phone cases. These recycled cases were cut into over 10,000 fragments of varying sizes, then stacked and secured onto both sides of the umbrella canopy. The rims of the cases were sliced into thousands of strips and adhered to the top surface of the umbrella and its central column. In my creative concept, the umbrella is synonymous with protection. Therefore, I aimed to use the central image of the "umbrella" to awaken environmental consciousness, serving as a metaphor for shielding our "Mother Earth" from pollution through small, daily sustainable actions. I named it "Bu Susu"—an onomatopoeic word mimicking the rustling sound the canopy makes when the wind whistles through it. May everyone who sees it grow to love this little umbrella, with its touch of childhood whimsy.
