Our fourth collaboration with Yuangu. Like a conversation across time, what we wanted was to weave the very bone structure of New Chinese aesthetics into the most authentic everyday life of Xiamen. We salvaged wooden molds from the old lanes of Southern Fujian’s countryside—some worn smooth by time until their grain felt soft as a palm kissed by the years; others bearing the scars of generations of repair, wrapped in the lingering warmth of ancestral hands. These turtle cake molds, steeped in human touch, seemed to awaken from the folds of old times. Engraved into the bloodline of every Fujian native, these heirlooms were once tools for pressing dough into sacred turtle cakes. Now, they have become the most storied protagonists of the window display—a breathing cultural code. And contrary to expectations, the muted, ancient tones did not go unnoticed. "Aren't those the old wooden molds from my hometown?" "Look, are those turtle cake molds?" "My grandma used these when I was little!" "So that’s how turtle cakes are made!" During installation, countless passersby paused, pointing at the molds, sharing memories with companions and family. You see, some beauty needs no forced virality. When history-laden turtle cake molds meet New Chinese elegance, when the handprints of old artisans overlap with our own ingenuity, those patterns polished bright by time seem to speak the most moving brand language: Culture is never a specimen in a museum. It is Grandma’s murmurs while kneading dough, the carvings on old roof beams, and us bending down to gently lift the treasures of old times into the view of the world. This time, we were merely the megaphone— And every carved mark on the turtle cake molds speaks for Xiamen: Look, our culture lives on, steaming with vibrant life.
